On June 6, 2025, The Cigar Yard Berlin hosted the 11th regional slow smoking competition in a stylish setting. Nine cigar enthusiasts competed for a spot at the German national championship in October. The rules were strict: Each participant received a Montecristo No. 4 – a globally available Cuban cigar – and could light it only once with two matches.
The goal: keep the cigar glowing as long as possible – without relighting or placing it down. A discipline requiring intense focus, breath control, and experience. This is not just enjoyment – it’s a true concentration sport.
Georgi Mitsov (38), a mathematician from Prenzlauer Berg, won the competition with a remarkable time of 1 hour and 12 minutes. With flawless technique and calm persistence, he secured his place in the national finals – held on October 18 at the magnificent Schloss Bückeburg in Lower Saxony.
